The ACCA has added its voice to the growing opposition to IR35. It says that the plans are misconceived and should be scrapped.
ACCA Head of Taxation Chas Roy-Chowdhury said that the IR35 measures were "based on a profound misunderstanding of the nature of personal service companies". He called on the government to remove them from the forthcoming legislation, "Not only is this measure unfair, it also discriminates against wealth-creators who are adding value to the economy. The Government is seriously mistaken on the issue and should reverse its decision."
The Professional Contractors Group reacted positively to the news of ACCA's statement. A spokesperson said, "in the past two weeks there has been widespread criticism of the the IR35 provisions. Now yet another highly respected and reputable organisation is telling the government the folly of its ways. It is about time the government removed its blinkers."
