PCG, the trade association for freelance consultants and contractors, has published the fourth edition of its Guide to Freelancing. The publication is available to download in PDF format from PCG's website and is free of charge to members and non-members alike.
The guide covers a range of topics, including business formation and the various forms of business available, taxation, accounting, banking and insurance, marketing, winning contracts, managing cash flow, working from home, cars, personal finances, retirement planning and closing a company.
PCG's Guide to S660A has also been revised, in light of the Court of Appeal judgment in the case of Jones v Garnett, and is available to members. PCG member Geoff Jones of Arctic Systems won his landmark section S660A appeal in December 2005, and although HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has been granted leave to appeal to the House of Lords, HMRC's interpretation of S660A, the so-called "settlements legislation", is not currently valid in law.
